Prabhas Telugu Movies to Watch on Sun NXT

Say “Prabhas” to a Telugu movie fan and brace yourself. You’ll get a grin, a favorite dialogue, and a loud argument about which film is the best. Long before Baahubali made him a pan-Indian name, Telugu cinema’s Rebel Star was building his fan base one film at a time.
If you’re looking for Prabhas Telugu movies to watch online, these five make a solid first watchlist. Searching for Prabhas movies online throws up a very long list, so we kept it short. Each film shows a different side of him, from a raw debut to a stylish gangster act. Expect rain-soaked romance, mass fight scenes, and a double role. Snacks are optional but recommended.
Every star has a first day on set, and for Prabhas it was Eswar (2002). He plays Eswar, a short-tempered young man from Dhoolpet in Hyderabad’s Old City, whose father makes arrack with the neighbors’ help. Eswar spots college girl Indu (Sridevi Vijaykumar), and that’s it; he’s smitten.
Then his father marries Sujatha (Revathi), and Eswar wants nothing to do with his new stepmother. A local MLA sending goons after him doesn’t help either. Jayanth C. Paranjee directs this Telugu action drama, with music by R. P. Patnaik. It was later dubbed into Hindi as Humla: The War.
The film marked Prabhas’s acting debut and Sridevi Vijaykumar’s Telugu lead-role debut, making it a notable starting point for both actors. The box office result was average, but it’s a must-watch if you’re curious how Prabhas started. Fans of Telugu action movies with a family angle should enjoy the throwback.
If one film turned Prabhas into a leading man, it’s Varsham (2004). Sobhan directs this romantic action film, which starts on a train to Warangal. Venkat, an unemployed youth, meets Sailaja (Trisha), and a sudden rainstorm gets them dancing together. Rain keeps turning up at every meeting after that, and they fall in love.
Trouble arrives in the form of Bhadranna, a ruthless faction leader played by Gopichand, who becomes obsessed with her. Her father, Ranga Rao (Prakash Raj), has plans of his own too. As Prabhas’s blockbuster movies go, this one ran for 175 days and won the Filmfare award for Best Film in Telugu.
Prabhas earned a Best Actor nomination, and Devi Sri Prasad’s songs did plenty of the heavy lifting. Among Prabhas’s romantic movies, it’s the one that swings fists as often as it swoons.
Some days you just want a movie that makes you smile, and Darling (2010) does that job. A. Karunakaran writes and directs this romantic comedy. Prabha (Prabhas), a musician, is desperate to dodge a forced marriage to Nisha (Shraddha Das), a don’s daughter.
His escape plan is a tall tale about falling for his long-lost love Nandini (Kajal Aggarwal) in Switzerland. Then the real Nandini shows up at a family reunion, and the fib gets harder to keep going. Reviews were positive; the film was a hit at the box office, and Prabhas won the CineMAA Best Actor (Jury) award. G. V. Prakash Kumar composed the music, and Kajal Aggarwal earned a Filmfare nomination for Best Actress.
It was later remade in Kannada as Bulbul. If you want Telugu romantic movies that don’t take themselves too seriously, this one fits.
Rebel (2012) is for fans of Prabhas action movies who like a revenge plot with big fight scenes and a mass-hero entry or two. Raghava Lawrence writes and directs this action comedy. Prabhas plays Rishi, the carefree son of village leader Bhupathi (Krishnam Raju), until an attack on the family shatters his peaceful life.
Years later, he lands in Hyderabad to hunt down the gangsters responsible and meets Nandini (Tamannaah Bhatia) in Bangkok along the way. Deeksha Seth plays Deepali, and Mukesh Rishi plays the villain Jayram. Lawrence is also a choreographer who wrote the songs, so expect stylized fights and loads of dance numbers.
Reviews were mixed, but critics praised the action and the performances of Prabhas and Tamannaah. It was dubbed into Hindi as The Return of Rebel and into Tamil as Veerabali.
Billa (2009) gives Prabhas two roles and plenty of attitude. Meher Ramesh directs this action thriller, the Telugu remake of the 2007 Tamil film Billa, a story that goes back to the 1978 Hindi film Don. Prabhas plays David Billa, a feared don hiding out in Malaysia, and Ranga, a petty thief from Visakhapatnam who looks just like him.
When Billa dies in a chase, ACP Krishnamurthy (Krishnam Raju) sends Ranga into the gang in his place to find out about a major weapons deal. Anushka Shetty plays Maya, Namitha plays Lisa, and Mani Sharma composed the music. Much of it was shot on location in Malaysia, which helps it look expensive.
Critics felt it had more style than substance, but they praised its slick look and Prabhas as a suave don. A 4K version returned to theatres in 2022.
