Prithviraj Malayalam Movies to Watch on Sun NXT

Prithviraj Sukumaran has been acting in Malayalam films since 2002, and his work covers commercial entertainers, thrillers and quieter character dramas. Beyond the films everyone knows, a few earlier performances show a different side of him.
One follows a brother caring for his disabled sister, other centres on a murder investigation, and a third is about the responsibilities of being a doctor. There’s also a comedy about addiction and a romantic drama inspired by one man’s dream of flying.
If you’re looking for Prithviraj Malayalam movies to add to your watchlist, these five are a good place to start. Each has its own story and mood.
Meerayude Dukhavum Muthuvinte Swapnavum
Released in 2003 and directed by Vinayan, Meerayude Dukhavum Muthuvinte Swapnavum is an emotional family drama from the early years of Prithviraj’s career. He plays Muthu, a young man devoted to his sister Meera, played by Ambili Devi.
Meera can’t walk, and Muthu does what he can to look after her. Life gets harder because of their uncle Suseelan’s gambling and the trouble it brings to the family. When Muthu falls in love with Aswathy, he also starts looking for a way to help his sister walk again.
Renuka Menon is in the cast as well. The film is about family duty, sacrifice and the bond between siblings. If you enjoy Prithviraj emotional movies that focus on relationships rather than spectacle, it’s worth watching.
The runtime is about two hours and thirteen minutes.
Directed by Ranjith Sankar, Arjunan Saakshi (2011) is a thriller built around mistaken identity and a murder investigation. Prithviraj plays Roy Mathew, a young architect who returns to Kochi after years abroad.
Journalist Anjali Menon, played by Ann Augustine, is investigating the murder of former district collector Firose Mooppan. When Roy happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, the police and media mistake him for Arjunan, the anonymous witness connected to the case.
That puts him in danger and pulls him into a search for the truth, and he and Anjali end up working together to find out who is responsible. Biju Menon, Mukesh and Jagathy Sreekumar also appear in the film. At about one hour and fifty-five minutes, it’s a solid pick among Malayalam movies to watch if you like a thriller driven by an investigation.
In Lal Jose’s 2012 medical drama, Prithviraj plays Dr. Ravi Tharakan, a young doctor whose attitude towards his job creates problems at work. He ends up under Dr. Samuel, played by Prathap Pothen, a strict senior doctor who expects discipline and responsibility.
Their clashes slowly change Ravi’s outlook on medicine and life. Instead of leaning on medical emergencies, the film looks at patient care, professional ethics and learning from experience. Samvrutha Sunil, Narain and Remya Nambeesan are also in the cast.
Lal Jose won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Director for it, and Prithviraj took Best Actor for this role together with Celluloid. If you prefer character over plot twists, it’s a good pick among Prithviraj drama movies.
Marthandan’s Pavada (2016) mixes comedy with a more serious look at addiction and how it affects relationships. Prithviraj plays Pambu Joy, whose drinking causes trouble in his marriage to Sinimol, played by Miya George.
At a rehab centre, Joy meets Babu Joseph, played by Anoop Menon, a former English professor who quotes Shakespeare when he’s drunk and doesn’t like being called Pavada Babu. The two become unlikely friends. Then an old film that Babu once produced, with Joy’s mother as the heroine, is about to be re-released, and both men must fight their addiction to stop it. Asha Sarath, Nedumudi Venu and Maniyanpilla Raju appear in supporting roles.
The film balances joke with moments that show what drinking costs people. It was a commercial success too, which puts it among Prithviraj hit movies.
Vimanam (2017), the directorial debut of Pradeep M. Nair, is inspired by the life of Saji M. Thomas, a Kerala man with hearing and speech impairment who built a lightweight aircraft from recycled materials. The film is a fictional story rather than a biopic.
Prithviraj plays Venkidi, a man with hearing impairment who faces hardship from an early age but never gives up on his dream of building and flying an aircraft. Durga Krishna plays Janaki, whose relationship with Venkidi adds a romantic thread. Alencier Ley Lopez and Sudheer Karamana appear in supporting roles.
Alongside the romance, the film deals with ambition, social expectations and the stubbornness it takes to chase an unusual goal. Reviews were mixed, with some criticism of its melodrama. Even so, if you like Prithviraj romantic movies with an inspirational angle, the unusual premise makes it worth a look.
Why These Prithviraj Sukumaran Movies Are Worth Watching
These five films show different sides of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s work. Meerayude Dukhavum Muthuvinte Swapnavum is about sibling love and family hardship, while Arjunan Saakshi builds suspense around a murder investigation.
Ayalum Njanum Thammil looks at medical ethics and personal growth, and Pavada mixes comedy with the struggle of addiction. Vimanam is about romance and the determination to reach an unusual dream. What they share is a focus on people, relationships and personal choices, even though the genres differ.
